This Ocean Acidification Analyses service(PEACHESEA) is aimed at companies, particularly those in the aquaculture sector. Also to researchers and other national or international institutions interested in monitoring acidification conditions in natural waters, with special precision in marine waters.

Both the methodology and the precision and accuracy of the determinations made by this service have been validated in international intercomparison exercises organised by the reference laboratory for these analyses, the Marine Physical Laboratory (Scripps Institution of Oceanography – University of California, San Diego) which in turn is the one who manufactures and distributes certified calibration standards globally.

The Global Ocean Data Analysis Project (GLODAP) has also validated the levels of precision and accuracy obtained by the group that manages the service through numerous national and international campaigns.


OBJECTIVES

It has been conceived with the aim of offering the observation of ocean acidification as a comprehensive service, so that, in addition to the analytical services, comprehensive environment observation services are offered, ranging from consultancy, deployment and management of observation equipment, up to laboratory experiments in controlled environments.

CATALOGUE

    • ALKALINITY ANALYSIS IN SEA WATER

Analytical determination of Total Alkalinity of seawater by potentiometric titration automatic with hydrochloric acid at a final pH of 4.41 (Perez et al., 2000).

    • SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC pH ANALYSIS IN SEA WATER

Determination of pH according to spectrophotometric procedure, consisting of adding the purple indicator of m-cresol to the seawater sample and measuring its absorbance at three specific wavelengths (SOP 6b in Dickson et al ,. 2007).

    • OBSERVATION OF pH IN AQUATIC SYSTEMS

Continuous acquisition in coastal systems, with real-time transmission of pH and temperature measurements at a depth of ~ 0.8m under a water surface.

    • SIMULATION ENVIRONMENT LABORATORY EXPERIMENTS

Deployment in the laboratory of experiments in tanks or aquariums in which Different controlled environments of temperature and pCO 2 will be simulated, with photoperiod also controlled.

    • GENERAL ASSESSMENT & CUSTOM FEATURES

The idea of ​​the service is to offer an open catalogue focused on ocean acidification, so this section refers to the possibility of applying our experience to solve problems or situations as they are of interest to users.
