Surface dynamic height wrt 500 dbar in the Canaries upwelling filament system August 1998. Features labelled A and C are anticyclonic and cyclonic eddies, while F1 and F2 are upwelling filaments. These arise from the interaction of the southwestward flowing Canary Current and the coastal upwelling with the abrupt topography of the islands.
