Research
Our group performs research in the area of Bioprocess
Engineering, namely regarding the mathematical
modelling and computer-aided simulation,
optimization and control of bio-processes (i.e. food
and biotechnology industries) and bio-systems
(e.g. biochemical pathways, biological waves, and other related topics
from the area of
systems biology).
Some of our current research topics are:
- Robust
control of nonlinear, distributed systems
(convection-diffusion-reaction)
- Analysis
and control of dissipative networks
- Model
reduction for non-linear dynamic distributed systems
- Identification
and parameter estimation
- Global
optimization of bio-processes (e.g. bioreactors) and
bio-systems
- Dynamic
optimization and nonlinear optimal control
of bio-processes
- Integrated
process design and control
- Web-based
simulation and optimization tools for the
bio-industries

Funding
We have been, and continue to be, involved
in many national and international projects and programs, including
EC projects
(FP5, FP6, FP7), NATO and EU-COST.
