Research activities
My research area is computational process engineering, with most applications targetting biological systems and the biotechnology and food industries. I am a member of the (Bio)Process Engineering Group at IIM-CSIC.
My main research topic is computational optimization, with emphasis on global optimization using deterministic, stochastic (including Evolutionary Computation) and hybrid methods.
These methods are used to solve important classes of problems arising from the domain of nonlinear dynamic processes, with applications targetting the areas of bioprocess engineering and systems biology:
- Identification and parameter estimation of nonlinear, distributed dynamic systems
- Optimal control (dynamic optimization), focusing on non-linear, distributed systems
- Integrated process design and control of biosystems & bioprocesses
