Short bio

My main research line is focused on the development of strategies and tools related to the mathematical modeling, simulation, optimization, and control of processes in the food and biotechnological sectors. One of my main interests is the study of processes that vary both in the spatial and time domains, and, as such, they must be described using mathematical models containing partial differential equations (PDEs). In this sense, I have studied classical techniques for the numerical solution of PDEs as well as reduced order models (more efficient than the classical methods). Besides, I have been working on the development of robust and real-time optimization and control strategies. Such tools have been successfully tested in pilot plants as well as real full-scale factories of the food and biotechnological sectors, such as sterilization of canned food, quality degradation and shelf life assessment of fresh and processed fish, lyophilization, chromatographic separation of sugars, among others.
